Well done and thank you to all who came and took part in our 5K Peedie Lap on Saturday 28th August.
For more than a decade, we have been running a Half Marathon event at the end of August, introducing a smaller 5K route in the last few years, but unfortunately we had to cancel both events last year, so we were especially pleased to be able to put on the 5K event this year as restrictions sufficiently eased recently. The Half Marathon event will return next year.
The Lap began at Rousay War Memorial, taking runners, walkers, and young cyclists up an incline to the main circular road, and then on to the Fire Station, turning around and back to the finish line at the entrance to Trumland House.
Our Laps usually attract good numbers from across Orkney and further afield, but this year was a low-key event for local entrants (and had also been hastily rescheduled from the previous week, due to the wet weather), which saw a much-reduced turnout of 18 on this dry but overcast day, all of whom received a medal at the finish line.
Special thanks go to the volunteers on the day, who helped our staff, and cheered participants on at the finish line, to Rousay Fire Station for opening their toilets for those in need at the halfway point, and to Scottish Water for providing water and reusable water bottles for participants.
Please see a selection of photographs from the event below.
Our 5K Peedie Lap is now scheduled for Saturday 28th August. Registration opens at the War Memorial (Rousay) at 11.30am, with the Lap starting from there at 12 noon.
The event was originally due to be held last week, but it was postponed due to the wet weather conditions - so fingers crossed for good weather this week!
The fun event is open to all ages and abilities, and you are welcome to run or walk the route. Children under 12 years of age are permitted to cycle.
The 5K will take you as far as the Fire Station, before turning around and returning along the route to the gates of Trumland House.
We are really looking forward to holding our Peedie Lap after being unable to hold either of our annual sports events - the 5K & Half-Marathon - in 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Our Rousay Lap Half-Marathon event will return in 2022.
Unfortunately, we have taken the decision to cancel the 5K Peedie Lap, which was due to be held today, due to the poor weather conditions.
Apologies for any inconvenience.
