Well done and thank you to all who came and took part in our 5K Peedie Lap on Saturday 28th August.

For more than a decade, we have been running a Half Marathon event at the end of August, introducing a smaller 5K route in the last few years, but unfortunately we had to cancel both events last year, so we were especially pleased to be able to put on the 5K event this year as restrictions sufficiently eased recently. The Half Marathon event will return next year.

The Lap began at Rousay War Memorial, taking runners, walkers, and young cyclists up an incline to the main circular road, and then on to the Fire Station, turning around and back to the finish line at the entrance to Trumland House.

Our Laps usually attract good numbers from across Orkney and further afield, but this year was a low-key event for local entrants (and had also been hastily rescheduled from the previous week, due to the wet weather), which saw a much-reduced turnout of 18 on this dry but overcast day, all of whom received a medal at the finish line.

Special thanks go to the volunteers on the day, who helped our staff, and cheered participants on at the finish line, to Rousay Fire Station for opening their toilets for those in need at the halfway point, and to Scottish Water for providing water and reusable water bottles for participants.

Please see a selection of photographs from the event below.

Thank you to all who attended our AGM on 27 February 2021, at which we gave an update on our activities, including those of our trading subsidiary companies and a Financial Statement.

We also announced the outcome of the postal vote for the election of directors.  In order to be elected to the Board candidates needed to receive more than 50% of the valid votes cast.  The following candidates were elected: -

Callum Flaws, Sarah Foulds, Eric Shortland, Richard Tipper, Alison Mainland (re-elected) and Peter Roebuck (re-elected).  They join Carole Maguire, Kayleigh Tipper and Carolyne Tunbridge on the Board.

Thank you to all the candidates who put their names forward.

A special thank you to John Garson who leaves the Board having spent 14 years as a Director, including the last 3 years as Chair.

Thanks to all who attended the 2019 AGM our next REW Heritage SCIO AGM should have been scheduled for October 2020.  Unfortunately due to the COVID-19  pandemic and the restrictions regarding large groups meeting in doors, the Trustees have agreed to postpone the meeting for now.

We will continue to monitor the Scottish Government and OSCR's guidelines on holding meetings and we will reschedule as soon as it is safe to do so.

If you have any questions about the work of the REW Heritage SCIO please contact the secretary Helen, at the REW DT offices.

The 2021 5K Peedie Lap has been scheduled for this Saturday (21st August). To help us to manage numbers and follow Covid safety protocols, we are opening the event for attendees resident on Rousay, Egilsay & Wyre only.

You will be required to write your name and address on a Track & Trace form by the War Memorial before you start. Please arrive at the War Memorial from 11:30am to allow enough time to register, so we can start at 12:00.

Due to the possibility that Covid guidance and restrictions may change at short notice, please continue to check our website and Facebook page, as these will be updated if there are any changes to the event.
