Our Allotments and Community Gardens were set up in 2011 with funding from the Climate Challenge Fund to reduce our carbon footprint by reducing food miles and encouraging local growing. The Community Garden is located at the primary school and is used as a community facility and outdoor learning environment which comprises of raised beds (for accessibility) a poly-tunnel and decking areas which includes a bird hide.
The Allotment site is located adjacent to social houses and offers external allotment plots and plots inside a poly-tunnel. We had an initial flurry of activity in the first two to three years at the allotment site but unfortunately with turnover of social housing residents, some of the new householders have not taken up the plots and therefore some of the plots are unused at the moment.
If anyone wishes to take up a plot, please either contact the REW DT offices 821229 or the Chair of the Allotment Association, Hilary Byland on 821400 or Ian on 821428 mobile 07765 585052.
Membership fees are still at the same rate as last year at £5.00 this allows you to access the hiring of the various gardening equipment held at the site and/or to rent a plot for the year, if desired.
To become a member or re-new membership please see Helen at the DT offices.
Plots are available now for both the allotments site (at £20 a year, including use of a shed) and the poly tunnel (at £10 a year). To rent a plot please see Helen (at the DT) or Hilary (821400)
